Eddy Temple-Morris, British Tinnitus Association (BTA) Ambassador, DJ, Producer, Presenter launched an exciting new tinnitus awareness raising project. A new tinnitus book entitled Zumbido was launched at the Brazilian ENT Meeting at Recife, November 14-17. The TRI members and principal investigators of the TRI Pharmagroup, Ricardo Figueiredo and Andréia Azevedo, authored this textbook, which is mainly geared towards ENT practitioners, in collaboration with many other specialists. Ana Belén Elgoyhen, leader of the TRI Pharmagroup, wrote the foreword. The book is edited by Editora Revinter in Rio de Janeiro and is written in portuguese language.

International State-Of-The-Science Meeting On Blast-Induced Tinnitus, November 15-16, 2011

Tinnitus is often associated with acoustic trauma and head injuries that are prevalent with blast-related injuries and is the number one service-connected disability for veterans. This meeting was a collaborative effort among the US Army Medical Research and Materiel Command, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the DoD Hearing Center of Excellence. The Program Coordinating Office is currently working with a distinguished expert panel of six international tinnitus experts to synthesize findings regarding the neurobiological basis of tinnitus, its association with PTSD and TBI, and current approaches to diagnosis and treatment.

A new study at the University of Michigan Health System, which was co-sponsored by the Tinnitus Research Initiative, has shown in an animal experiment, that somatosensory neurons maintain a high level of activity following exposure to loud noise, even after hearing itself returns to normal. These results mark an important step toward potential relief for people who are suffering from tinnitus, pointed out principal investigator Susan E. Shore, Ph.D., of U-M's Kresge Hearing Research Institute and a professor of otolaryngology and molecular and integrative physiology at the U-M Medical School.
